Scotland’s successful cross country event has left them keen to stage many more sporting events in the near future. Scotland as a whole benefited from an economic impact of £3.2 million, from staging athletics’ IAAF World Cross Country Championships in March, according to new research carried out by EKOS Limited.
Additionally, Edinburgh the host city of the event, benefited in numerous other ways including increased job opportunities, participation of volunteers and local schools.
The success of this recent event has brought excitement about future international events coming to the country. Scotland is due to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and will be involved in the 2012 London Olympics. EventScotland and the government are looking at various other bidding options for future sporting events in the country.
