Scottish teams Edinburgh and Glasgow could be kicked out of the Magners League by their Welsh and Irish counterparts.

The nations have reportedly fallen out over proposals for two Italian teams to enter the competition from next season.

If the Scots fail to vote in favour of including the Italian teams it could prompt Irish and Welsh chiefs to boot them out of the league.

However, a Scottish Rugby Union spokesman has denied the claims saying they are ‘completely without foundation’

He also added: ‘Scottish Rugby continues to have positive discussions with the Celtic unions in respect of potential Italian entry into the Magners League.’

The Scottish Rugby Union was due to meet this week to discuss its stance on the Italian teams’ entry.
If the Scots announce their agreement to admit the Italians, the league will be expanded to 12 teams from next season.
