FA Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has stated his desire to
suspend the eight agents who refused to co-operate with Lord Stevens in his
investigation into corruption in football transfers.
Stevens’ report, the findings of which were revealed earlier this week,
detailed that 17 of the 362 transfers investigated required further analysis but
that that such work was proving difficult due to the non-compliance of eight
agents involved in the dealings.
Scudamore has now added that he believes it would be a ‘sensible idea’ to
suspend the agents concerned whilst also stating that such sanctions could only
be implemented by the Football Association.
Willie Mackay, who has been named in the media as one of the eight agents
refusing to comply with the investigation, has denied being a hurdle to the
success of the operation.
‘I filled out all of the appropriate forms on all the deals at the time and
there has never been any query about this. I have nothing to hide,’ he stated.
The FA has yet to comment on the idea of such suspensions.
