In what is traditionally, a male-dominated sport, the search for Britain’s first-ever female horseracing commentator is underway.

This summer, lovetheraces.com will be conducting a nationwide search to find a female race caller, with the winner commentating at Ascot on 24th July, receiving a £2,500 cash prize, and earning a place on a racing industry commentary training course.

Rod Street, spokesperson for lovetheraces.com, said: ‘Horse racing is one of the few sports that connects with women and we’re seeing increasing numbers of female trainers and jockeys competing at the top of the profession, so why not from the top of the grandstand in the commentator’s box?’

Although a female commentator will be new to horse racing, it was football that introduced the first female British sports commentator when Jacqui Oatley covered a Match of the Day game for the BBC on 21st April 2007.

Lovetheraces.com aims to fast-track its semi-finalists, who will have the chance to prove themselves in live heats during racing at Bath and Doncaster Racecourse earlier in the summer.

Anyone who feels they have what it takes to be the new ‘Voice of Racing’ can get the chance to practice online at lovetheraces.com in its ‘Commentary Karaoke’ section.

Hopefuls can then record their entry for the competition and download it for the judges to evaluate.
