Setanta Sports has further encroached on rival Sky’s monopoly on football rights
after winning the TV rights to the UK clubs competing in third round qualifying
games of the UEFA Champions League.
Beginning on 15th August, Setanta will show live coverage of the two-leg
games including Toulouse versus Liverpool; Spartak Moscow against Celtic; Sparta
Prague take on Arsenal; and Crvena Zvezda against Rangers.
Sky and terrestrial broadcaster ITV hold the live rights to the main stages
of the Champions League but Setanta’s latest scoop bolsters its emerging
football rights portfolio which includes 46 live Premier League games – the
first time live coverage of the top-flight has been screened by a broadcaster
other than Sky.
Setanta will screen three of the Champions League matches in the afternoon
and evening of 15th August, with the Crvena Zvezda versus Rangers game to be
played on 29th August.
