Former rugby players are set to take on a unique challenge, with a seven-seater bike ride from London to Paris forming part of Simon Shaw’s new charity initiative in a bid to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Restart Rugby.

Joining the former British Lions star will be England stars Nick Easter and Andy Gomarsall, French internationals Serge Betsen and Thomas Castaignede and former All-Black, Mark Robinson.

The ride, which starts in London on 18th July and finishes in Paris three days later, in time to see the finish of the 100th Tour de France the following day.

Simon Shaw explained: ‘Many rugby players who are edging towards retirement look for one last, major physical challenge and I chose this. Most people agree that raising money for charity is a little easier when it is fun and I certainly intend this trip to be exactly that. Testament to my intensions is the line up of players here to support me today and who will be on the ride – anyone who comes with us is guaranteed a trip to remember.’

‘The only serious aspect of this venture is our desire to raise a lot of money for our chosen causes. To do this we hope to attract some sponsors as well as get more people to sign up to ride with us.’

Thomas Castaignede added: ‘The trip that Simon has put together is an amazing one. Not only do you get to try out a great challenge and raise money for two good causes, you get to witness the final stage of the Tour de France – this has to be a must-do trip for any sports fan!’
