Everton owner and chairman Bill Kenwright has incurred the wrath of his fellow shareholders over the Premiership club’s plans to move to a new stadium in Kirkby.

At the club’s annual general meeting, the club shareholders accused Kenwright and the other directors of not properly exploring other site options.

Kenwright insisted he was looking at all the options available to the club, including staying at the current ground Goodison Park.

Feelings have been running high for months as Everton have entered into discussions with Tesco and the authorities in Kirkby – significantly outside the city boundaries – over a new home for the team.

Kenwright said that if the Kirkby plan does not happen, Everton have a contingency plan of reconsidering a redevelopment plan Goodison Park.

Liverpool City Council has also suggested an alternative site close to the city centre on Scotland Road.

However, it is believed that any rebuilding of Goodison will cost about £250m, while the Kirkby project will cost about £150m.
