Sheffield United’s trip to Wembley for its FA Cup semifinal against Hull City was supported by a one-off shirt sponsorship deal with Saudi brand Mbuzz.

The League One side sported the technology, media and telecoms group’s logo across the front of their shirts for their eventual defeat against Premier League outfit Hull City.

Sheffield United became the ninth club from outside the top two divisions to reach the last four – none has reached the final.

The partnership is the first Mbuzz has signed in soccer and was brokered by Sports Revolution Arabia, a new Dubai-based offshoot of sports marketing agency Sports Revolution.

Sheffield United are co-owned by Saudi Arabia’s Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who bought a 50% stake in the club in September.

Mbuzz chairman Nasser Al Sayari said of the deal: ‘Sheffield United’s recent resurgence in the league and exciting cup run has not gone unnoticed in Riyadh – where football is the country’s number one passion, and English football especially. We hope our involvement will contribute in some way towards the Club’s continuing success and its return to former glories.’

Sunday’s match eventually ended 5-3 to the Premier League side, with Hull City now set for an FA Cup final for the first time in their history.

The result means Hull will return to Wembley on 17th May to play Arsenal in the final.
