English football legend David Beckham has filed for a number of NFT and Metaverse-related trademarks, following several other big names from the world of sport to do the same in recent months.

Beckham submitted three trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on April 19th, according to a tweet from NFT and metaverse trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis. It was filed by California-based DB Ventures Limited, the venture capital firm owned by the former Manchester United midfielder.

Beckham entered blockchain and cryptocurrency space in March when he became the global brand ambassador for layer-one blockchain protocol DigitalBits.


Nordic Entertainment Group-owned streaming service Viaplay has added the National Hockey League (NHL) to its UK content offering.

Viaplay will launch in the UK in the second half of 2022. The new five-year deal with the NHL ensures the streaming platform will show up to 1,400 games every year until the end of the 2026/2027 season.


Manchester City has announced that the club will travel to the United States for two preseason friendlies in preparation for the 2022/23 season. This will mark the Premier League champions’ first international friendly in over two calendar years due to COVID restrictions, giving City the chance to connect with a global fanbase once more.

Pep Guardiola’s side will meet Club América of the Mexican Liga BBVA MX for the first pre-season fixture at NRG Stadium on Wednesday 20th July, with a second fixture being announced next week.
