Shorts: Cfg, Formula E, DAZN
US private equity firm Silver Lake has consolidated its position as the second-largest shareholder in Premier League football club Manchester City’s parent company, City Football Group (CFG), after the group’s Chinese investors significantly reduced its stakes.
The Silicon Valley-based firm now owns more than 18% of City Football Group after buying more shares from China Media Capital, CFG confirmed. China Media Capital’s stake is now close to zero.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the billionaire royal who acquired Manchester City in 2008, also increased his stake as the controlling shareholder in the parent group through Abu Dhabi-based Newton Investment and Development.
Formula E today unveiled a fresh new look ahead of Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and the debut of the Gen3 car, new races in iconic world cities, new teams and new sporting formats.
The Gen3 – the fastest, lightest, most powerful and efficient electric race car ever built – will make its competitive debut in Mexico City on 14th January, following pre-season testing next month in Valencia.
The championship will continue with three new cities hosting Formula E races for the first time – Hyderabad, India; Cape Town, South Africa; and São Paulo, Brazil.
McLaren and Maserati are new teams joining the Formula E grid next season. They will race alongside the likes of Jaguar, Porsche and Nissan in the latest championship.
To coincide with the start of the Gen3 era, Formula E has also reimagined the visual and sonic brand identity of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Global sports and entertainment platform DAZN has signed a non-exclusive deal with Kinguin Prime Time Wrestling to broadcast prime time wrestling events globally until end of 2023, adding to the global platform’s growing fight sports portfolio.
