The BBC has announced an audio rights deal with boxing promotion company Matchroom Boxing, which will see it air exclusive live UK radio and digital coverage of the Chris Eubank Jnr vs Conor Benn boxing match.
The fight will take place at London’s O2 Arena, with live radio commentary made available via BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Sounds or the BBC Sport website.
Jeanette Kwakye and Steve Bunce will present coverage, with commentary from Ronald McIntosh and George Groves.
IMG’s inflight and in ship sports channel Sport 24 has announced a deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to broadcast the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 for the first time.
Sport24 will show 150 hours of live coverage from the Men’s T20 World Cup, hosted by the defending champions Australia from 16th October to 13th November 2022.
The deal will also see Sport 24 broadcast the Men’s Cricket World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for One Day International Cricket, to be held in India during October and November 2023.
Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) has revealed that indie-rock band Kaiser Chiefs will be the headline music act as part of the official tournament welcome event at St James’ Park, Newcastle on Saturday 15th October.
This year’s tournament is being held in England and the band will play just before the opening fixture between England’s men’s side and Samoa.
RLWC2021 Revenue Director, Mick Hogan, said, “We’ve said all along that the opening game is going to be pretty special – and who better than the Kaiser Chiefs to get the party started in that stadium. The award-winning band has an amazing back catalogue, and I can’t wait to see a huge crowd in Newcastle singing along to what is sure to be a brilliant set.”
UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has announced Professor Nicola Philips OBE as the new Chair of its Athlete Commission group.
The UKAD Athlete Commission is an independent group of British athletes who are passionate about clean sport. The group discusses, and is consulted on, UKAD policies, wider issues in clean sport, and ensures that the athlete perspective is included at the heart of anti-doping in the UK.
Nicola, who has been a member of the UKAD Board since 2017 and is an internationally registered Sports Physiotherapy specialist and a Professor at Cardiff University, will be responsible for chairing the group and supporting them with their strategic priorities and public relations in her new role.
