The Players Championship trophy came to life during NBC’s broadcast of the 2022 PGA Tour event. The Tour and NBC partnered with The Famous Group to animate the trophy, which marks the first mixed reality segment to appear on a golf broadcast.

The trophy mimicked the mannerisms of Tiger Woods’ during his famous ‘better than most’ putt at on the 17th hole at the 2001 Players Championship, and Rickie Fowler’s tee shot from his 2015 victory at TPC Sawgrass. The move acts as a trial before possibly adding mixed reality activations to this year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs and the Presidents Cup.

It will be the home to three skatepark floors, a 15 metre climbing wall, dedicated bouldering area, cafe and boxing facilities.

Last year skateboarding made its premier at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, with Sky Brown winning a Bronze Medal for Team GB, securing her place as Britain’s youngest ever Summer Olympian. Since then, the number of people taking up skateboarding has rocketed, with participation at an all-time high.
