Everton FC has confirmed that the club will play its first competitive game in its new stadium at the start of the 2025/26 season after pushing back its move in date.
The Premier League football club had planned to make the move at the halfway point of the 2024/25 campaign.
The new 52,888 capacity stadium is being built at Bramley-Moore Dock and remains on schedule to be completed by the end of 2024 despite the Toffee’s financial struggles.
The decision not to move mid-season is thought to be driven by commercial and logistical reasons, as well as supporter feedback.
Colin Chong, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Everton FC, said the newly proposed move in date was chosen due to “numerous commercial, logistical, sporting and fan-related factors”.
He added, “Firstly, and to be absolutely clear, our decision to not move in mid-season is not because of a construction delay.
“It is a club decision driven by a combination of commercial insight, a comprehensive review of the logistics required, an analysis of the potential impact upon our football operations and, importantly, fan feedback sourced as part of our recent stadium migration survey, which was completed by almost 10,000 Evertonians.
“Everton Stadium remains firmly on track, as scheduled, to be completed in the final weeks of 2024.”
