Everton’s 10-point deduction from the Premier League has been taken to parliament.

Ian Byrne, Labour MP for West Derby, has tabled an early day motion in the House of Commons after Everton FC was struck with the 10-point penalty on Friday 17th November for breaches of the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.

The punishment is the biggest sporting sanction in the competition’s history and leaves Everton 19th in the table on a new total of four points, with the Toffees set to appeal the ruling.

English top-flight clubs are permitted to lose £105m over three years, and an independent commission found Everton’s losses to 2021-22 amounted to £124.5m.

In February, the government announced plans to appoint a regulator, following a fan-led review last year.

THG has selected London-based sports marketing agency Right Formula to activate the brand’s first-ever multi-faceted sports sponsorship with Formula 1’s Williams Racing.

THG, formerly The Hut Group, is a British e-commerce retail company and recently became Williams Racing’s official partner across nutrition, technology, commerce and sustainability.

Right Formula won the pitch to activate the group’s multi-year agreement and will provide a ‘360-degree service to maximise the launch and increase the effectiveness of its partnership through strategy, communications, hospitality and event activation.’

The partnership was officially launched ahead of the 2023 Austin Grand Prix with the support of Right Formula that delivered a Monster Truck in a one-off Williams Racing and THG livery.

Robin Fenwick, Chief Executive Officer of Right Formula, said, “We are excited to be working with THG to activate its innovative partnership with Williams Racing that will see them promote three businesses through one team: Myprotein, Ingenuity and THG Eco. Right Formula’s reputation is built on working with major brands like THG as they enter and navigate the sports sponsorship arena. Today’s Formula 1 audience is younger and more digitally engaged than ever before, making it an exciting time for THG to get involved.”

Steven Whitehead, Group Commercial Director at THG, added, “Right Formula’s experience in Formula 1, industry relationships and digital expertise makes it the perfect partner to activate our partnership with Williams Racing.

“The team at Right Formula have already acted as invaluable partners as we’ve worked together to launch this exciting partnership. We look forward to using all their services to bring this to life over the next few years.”

Surrey Football Association’s Unite Through Football: Refugees project has been re-launched for a second successive season.

In September 2022, Surrey FA launched Unite Through Football: Refugees, in collaboration with accommodation provider SBHL and Surrey Police to refugees.

The programme provided an opportunity for young men and women across the South East to play football and connect with local communities while positively supporting their mental health and wellbeing.

The league format of the project provides football opportunities, kit, boots and prayer facilities for over 200 players, and has allowed the opportunity for community football foundations, local organisations and clubs working with refugee groups, to widen the football offer for displaced people across the South East, as they prepare for life outside hotels.

Sally Lockyer, Chief Executive Officer of Surrey FA, said, “We have seen a growing population of refugees within the South East, and we want to create opportunities for them to play football, boost their mental health, and connect with the local community.

“Following a successful first season, we’re delighted that with the sponsorship support of SBHL, we can continue to create opportunities for our refugee community to participate in sporting activities. Not only does it help them to build positive relationships within their local community, but it also provides structure, support and social opportunities, which are hugely important for people who have been displaced, often in very traumatic circumstances.”
