The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced record prize money of more than £6m for next month’s Women’s T20 World Cup.

The £6.04m figure is more than double the prize money for the previous tournament in 2023.

The winners will take away £1.8m following an IOC announcement in 2023 stating a commitment to equal prize money for all future men’s and women’s competitions.

The tournament was scheduled to be held in Bangladesh but was moved to the United Arab Emirates following civil unrest in the original host country.

World Boxing President, Boris van der Vorst, commented, “Liverpool is a globally famous city with a proud heritage in boxing and it will be a fantastic place to host our first ever Elite World Boxing Championships.

“This will be a superb showcase for the sport of Olympic boxing, particularly as it will be the first time that the men and women’s competition will run alongside each other as part of the same championships.”
