The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a new format for its Men’s T20 World Cup, as the West Indies and United States prepare to co-host the 2024 edition of the tournament.
For 2024, the 20-team tournament will work in two phases before the knockouts, though in a different framework from the First Round/Super 12 format used at the 2021 and 2022 editions.
The top two teams in each of the four groups of five will move to a Super Eight phase, where the remaining sides will be split into two groups of four. The top two in each group will then make their way to the semi-finals.
England will head into the reshaped tournament as reigning champions following victory over Pakistan in Melbourne two weeks ago.
