Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has stated that the EFL Championship football club has paid its bill with HM Revenue and Customs and will come out of the transfer embargo.

The Owls, that sit bottom of the Championship, were placed under a transfer embargo by the EFL last Friday which sees the club is banned from signing and registering any additional players to its squad until the embargo is lifted.

Chansiri then said in an interview this week he might need assistance from fans to raise £2m to cover the HMRC bill and this month’s player and staff wages because of a cashflow problem.

Chansiri had suggested that 20,000 supporters pay £100 each in order to cover the debt.

In a statement the Sheffield Wednesday’s owner, said, “Money owed to me was late and this had the potential to impact on the club. In business, what happens today can be very different tomorrow and right now this is finished.”
