Tottenham Hotspur have become the first Premier League football club to join the UN-backed Sports for Nature Framework.
The framework aims to encourage transformative nature-positive action across sports by 2030, enabling sports to champion nature protection and restoration. By joining, Tottenham Hotspur have committed to protecting nature, restoring it where possible, reducing risks to nature in supply chains, and educating about positive action.
The club already promotes biodiversity across its sites, including planting trees, establishing a wildflower meadow and wildlife ponds, and installing bat houses and bug hotels at their Training Centre. They have also implemented biodiversity monitoring systems to track pollination and bird activity.
Spurs have also highlighted their commitment to animal welfare by establishing a supporters’ club for dog owners.
Donna-Maria Cullen, Executive Director at Tottenham Hotspur, said, “Becoming the first signatory in the Premier League of the Sports for Nature Framework means we can now demonstrate clear action across all three pillars of the UN’s definition of sustainability set out at COP29 – People, Climate and Nature.”
