Despite having lost the F1 Grand Prix to Donington Park, Silverstone has picked up the British MotoGP race from its rival UK track from 2010 meaning the two races are effectively swapping venues.

Silverstone has struck a deal with MotoGP rights holders Dorna Sports to stage the motorcycling race for the next five years from 2010.

Since 1987 Silverstone has been home to the British Formula One Grand Prix, but in July 2008 it was revealed that the race would be relocating to Donington from 2010 on a 10-year deal after the sport’s supremo complained about the facilities.

Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone commented: ‘We have worked closely with Dorna Sports to bring MotoGP to Silverstone and both parties are extremely excited about the opportunity to take this world-class event to another level.

‘The Grand Prix circuit offers a combination of high speed straights and technical corners, presenting a real challenge to the riders, while the facilities for teams and spectators are second to none.’
