Silverstone Circuits Limited has confirmed that the 2010 Formula 1 British Grand Prix will be staged on Silverstone’s new Arena Grand Prix circuit.
Following the approval from Formula One Management the new track will now host the British leg of the Grand Prix on the 9th-11th July.
Silverstone has invested more than £5m on the new circuit and the current work being carried out on the track is scheduled for completion in March 2010.
The majority of Silverstone’s iconic straights and high-speed corners are retained in the Arena Grand Prix Circuit.
The new circuit length has been increased by 760m bringing the total lap distance up to 3.6 miles.
MotoGP (18th-20th June) and World Superbikes (30th July-1st August) are also heading to Silverstone in 2010, with both events scheduled to take place on the new Arena Grand Prix circuit.
The Northamptonshire venue is also making a number of changes to its spectator viewing areas. In addition to constructing elevated viewing banks, existing grandstands and fence lines are being moved to bring fans closer to the on-track action.
Work on Silverstone’s new Pit and Paddock Complex, to be located between Club and Abbey, is scheduled to be carried out between the spring of 2010 and the summer of 2011.
Included in the complex will be new garages, a race control building, media centre, hospitality and VIP spectator zones and a primary paddock.
