2018’s group of Sport Industry NextGen Leaders continued their Leadership Package with a 24-hour experience at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) with Inspirational Development Group (IDG).

Sport Industry NextGen in partnership with Barclays identifies tomorrow’s leaders, rewards their potential and nurtures their talent.

The course is bespoke to the Sport Industry NextGen Leadership Package, designed by IDG to help the Leaders further develop their existing leadership skills in order to lead, motivate and support their teams back in the workplace.

IDG is based at the RMAS since 2001, and works with a variety of consultants from the military or commercial sector in order to design and deliver bespoke training programmes for a wide variety of clients.

The programme included an exploration of effective leadership and followership, with practical examples and the theory behind them, followed by a variety of team activities and tasks to put those lessons into practice.

The 24-hour experience also included a tour of RMAS, the British Army’s premier training establishment and the only establishment for army officer training, and a night in the ‘barracks’.

Craig Preston, managing director at IDG, and a Sport Industry NextGen Coach, said: “IDG and RMAS has a history built on effective leadership, so being able to spend a full 24-hours with the Sport Industry NextGen Leaders really gives us an opportunity to strip back existing mind sets and allow them to step back, reflect and evaluate who they are as effective leaders and followers within their organisations.

“This is the third year that IDG has partnered with Sport Industry NextGen, and it’s been brilliant to be involved since the beginning and witness first-hand the strength and depth that the next generation of sport industry leaders have to offer.”

Founded in 2000, IDG’s ambition is to harness the collective experience and talent of committed managers and – through enhanced leadership, followership and partnership skills – focus on raising the performance of the organisations they work with.

IDG works with global blue-chip companies, sporting teams and smaller organisations, with team away days available from 16 people.

In addition to the 24-hour experience at Sandhurst, 2018’s group of Sport Industry NextGen Leaders will receive a number of opportunities throughout the year to help develop their potential, including: business insights from Barclays’ senior leadership team, legal expertise sessions with Howard Kennedy, an executive workshop with Loughborough University London, and a variety of networking opportunities including a membership to the Sport Industry Breakfast Club.

The free to enter programme aims to discover the rising industry stars, who receive a dedicated Leadership Package to better equip them for future leadership roles, including a business support package, regular professional networking opportunities and personal development and mentoring.

Next year’s programme opens for applications in July.
