As part of the Sport Industry NextGen Leadership Package, earlier this month the inaugural Sport Industry NextGen Leaders took on a 24 hour experience at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), in a bespoke course created, designed and delivered by The Inspirational Development Group (IDG).
The course aimed to help further develop the group’s existing leadership skills in order to continue to lead, motivate and support their teams back in the work place.
IDG has had a partnering agreement with RMAS since 2001, with a wealth of consultants to design and deliver bespoke leadership and team development programmes for a variety of clients from a broad range of the commercial sectors.

Throughout the day, the group was introduced to the values based leadership approach that underpins the development of the Army’s young leaders of today. Lessons learned are completely transferable into the sport industry.
The day was crafted around personal objectives that the Sport Industry NextGen Leaders committed to at the end of their experience, which saw the group experience life at the historic site – which has seen the likes of Sir Winston Churchill, Field-Marshal Montgomery, the King of Jordan and more recently, Princes William and Harry pass through its doors.

The day began with an introduction to Leadership and Followership in Old College, before those lessons were put into practice with a number of activities designed to test the group both mentally and physically, as a team of effective and efficient leaders and followers.

This culminated with a team trip around the military assault course, complete with tunnels, walls, barbed wire, rivers and mud, normally reserved for the Academy cadets.

Finally, the Sport Industry NextGen Leaders changed into evening formal wear as the group settled in for the complete 24 hour experience with dinner and a keynote from adventurer Jake Meyer, who became the youngest man in the world to complete the seven summits at the age of 21. With the help of IDG, Jake will take on K2 later this year.

Lance Gerrard-Wright, IDG Sandhurst Project Director said; “IDG were delighted to welcome the Sport Industry NextGen Leaders through the gates of Sandhurst recently. They join not only the distinguished military alumni of this prestigious and world-leading Leadership Development establishment, but also some of IDG’s more high profile sporting clients: the ECB, EIS, Elite Coaches of UK Sport, and Fulham FC to name but a few. The team threw themselves into every activity (quite literally with the lake plunge at the end!) and went away with an excellent shared experience and some immediately practical tools to improve their leadership and followership skills. We look forward to working with them again.”
