Track cycling event series Six Day has unveiled an expanded global race calendar, with an additional UK race in Manchester, as well as further events in Australian cities Melbourne and Brisbane over the course of the 2019 season.
London will once again host the first event of the cycling series in October before moving on to the 108th edition of Six Day Berlin and Copenhagen in January and February, respectively. The cyclists will then head down under to Melbourne in February, as the Series ventures out of Europe for the first time, before returning to the UK in Manchester in March and finishing in Brisbane for the Final in April 2019.
Commenting on the expanded series, chief executive officer of the Madison Sport Group, James Durbin said: “We are thrilled to be able to further grow what we believe to be the world’s most breath-taking and unique brand of cycling. To be able to bring the Six Day Series to Melbourne, Brisbane and Manchester is a great opportunity to combine some exhilarating track racing with three cities that are equally as exciting.”
“Australia has some of the best track cyclists in the world and are renowned for hosting some of the most exciting and well supported sporting events and we believe the Six Day Series will be a perfect fit. While the Manchester event brings Six Day to one of the world’s most passionate cycling cities.”
Already confirmed for this year’s event is Mark Cavendish, who returns for his third Six Day London event, as well as a number of other Olympic and World champions, with men’s and women’s competitions confirmed across the events.
Six Day London will take place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 23rd to 28th October 2018.
