London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Ed Clancy has signed a two-year deal to become a brand ambassador for the UK arm of Czech carmaker Skoda.

The 28-year-old Briton, who struck gold in the team pursuit at the London 2012 Games, as well as bronze in the omnium, will promote the company’s association with cycling.

The car manufactorer said in an official press release that it would use its sponsorship activity to promote the benefits of cycling and to encourage more British families to take up the sport.

Heidi Cartledge, head of marketing for Skoda UK, said: ‘Cycling is enjoying a huge revival in the UK at the moment and Skoda is incredibly proud to be part of it. Britain boasts many of the sport’s brightest stars, including Ed Clancy. We’re really excited to have Ed on board and hope that this will inspire families all over the UK to get out on their bikes and have fun!’

Skoda UK also backs the Tour of Britain cycling race and the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling as well as professional teams Rapha Condor-JLT and Matrix Fitness.
