Sky Sports has secured the UK and Ireland broadcast rights to the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The deal, agreed between the UK subscription sports broadcaster and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has been struck just five days before the tournament’s opening game between hosts Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.

As per the deal, all 52 games will be broadcast live on Sky Sports with its matches also available for streaming on Sky’s NOW TV service.

The tournament is set to take place from 11th January to 13th February, with the final being played at the 60,000-capacity Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced an increase in the prize pool for the tournament with a $2m (£1.57m) increase from the 2022 competition taking the total prize money to $7m (£5.5m).

Senegal will be looking to retain its AFCON trophy after the 2023 tournament was delayed by six months to avoid Ivory Coast’s rainy season.
