Sky Sports has announced it will broadcast the WNBA during the league’s landmark 25th season, which will feature at least one game per week, free-to-air streams on its YouTube channels, and 17 regular-season games airing in European primetime.

Sky Sports will also screen the WNBA All-Star Game and a range of Playoff and Finals games.

The 2021 season officially gets underway on 14th May with action kicking off on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Mix on 15th May.

A ‘selection’ of games will be made available on the Sky Sports YouTube channel for wider audiences, while the WNBA itself will make 12 regular-season available live on its @WNBA Twitter handle.

The WNBA coverage will feature in-game commentary from ‘basketball insiders, influencers and WNBA legends’.

The league also recently launched a season-long 25th anniversary campaign, ‘Count It’ to leverage interest in the sport and signifying the WNBA is ‘not done counting achievements’ across its history, and looking to future growth.

Recently, the league partnered with Google, which has become its Official Fan Insights Partner. The tech giant also partnered with US WNBA broadcaster ESPN to make coverage more visible, as well as backing a series of documentaries.

Meanwhile, the WNBA will be the latest league to be streamed on a public platform by Sky Sports, following this season’s Vitality Netball Superleague, and the British Basketball League. Sky’s live streams will be part of its campaign to make women’s sport ‘more visible’.
