Sky Sports will unveil a new structure later this month, after confirming a repackaged offering to viewers that will see a series of standalone single-sport channels introduced.

From 18th July, the numbered Sky Sports channels that have appeared on Sky Sports since the launch of Sky Sports 2 in 1994 will disappear, replaced by two football channels – Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football, including coverage of the English Football League, Spain’s La Liga and international fixtures – as well as individual channels for cricket and golf to join the existing Sky Sports F1.

A range of sports will also be carried on the Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Action channels, with Sky Sports Main Event reserved for the highest-profile coverage and Sky Sports Mix retained for non-sports subscribers.

The pricing structure with viewers now able to pick and choose the sports they want to watch. Under the new structure, customers can pay £18 a month for one channel, £22 for two, £26 for three or £27.50 for all ten, although these costs would be in addition to a subscription for the main Sky TV platform.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports said: “We’re dedicating channels to some of our biggest sports, launching a new way to watch the best live action and offering even better digital products too. Sky Sports is giving customers even more choice and channels at the same price for another 12 months, while opening up new ways for sports fans to join. If you love Premier League, you can enjoy it for as little as 60p a day or you can have the full Sky Sports package for less than £1.”

Stephen van Rooyen, Sky UK and Ireland chief executive added: “Sport has been a major part of Sky for 26 years and we’re improving our service even further, super-serving existing customers and providing flexibility to a whole new generation of sports fans. We are making sport more accessible and offering even more choice; all part of our continued investment in offering Sky customers an unrivalled service.”

Sky Sports aims to use the non-live portions of its programming for original content, including documentaries, dedicated club days and nightly debate shows.
