Snedden To Lead 2011 Rwc Team

Martin Snedden, the head of New Zealand Cricket, is leaving his post to lead the
company organising the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Snedden, who played 25 Tests and 93 one-day internationals for New Zealand
between 1981 and 1990, will take up his new role in May 2007.

A former lawyer, Snedden has been NZ Cricket’s chief executive since May
2001.

The decision by the IRB to award New Zealand the hosting rights to the 2011
World Cup was riddled with controversy with many onlookers believing that the
rugby governing body was merely bowing to financial pressures when overlooking
the bids from other countries, most noticeably Japan.
