Snooker’s governing body (WPBSA) has set up a hotline in a bid to stamp out corruption in the sport.

The new line will be for players to report any suspicious activities in snooker and the WPBSA will explain the initiative to its member players in a meeting in Germany.

WPBSA disciplinary chief David Douglas said of the move: ‘It is a hotline and email service for the players that is anonymous or otherwise. The players can use it to report suspicious activities or to inquire about information about the rules and regulations.’

‘It is a case of the WPBSA being pro-active and making sure we are not arrogant to think that corruption is not a part, or could not be a part, of the sport,’ he added.

The introduction of the hotline comes as a reaction to the John Higgins case earlier this year where the former world champion was found guilty of failing to report an illegal approach to lose frames in a match.

Higgins was cleared of all match-fixing allegations made against him but admitted bringing the game into disrepute by not reporting the approach.
