Co-Founders of Social Chain, Steven Bartlett (pictured) and Dominic McGregor, have both announced that they will leave the company six years after starting the business.

The pair were in their early 20s when they set up the social media publishing and marketing company, with Bartlett serving as CEO and McGregor as COO. The Manchester-based agency now has offices in London, Berlin, New York and Munich and employs some 700 staff.

Previously in 2020, the company merged with German retailer Lumaland and became The Social Chain AG, listed on the German stock market.

Confirming the news on social media, Bartlett said: “Today I informed my team, my friends, and my family that after 6 years as CEO of Social Chain, I would be stepping down.

“I don’t know where to begin…Social Chain was conceived on a small desk in the backroom of the uni I had just dropped out of in Manchester.

“What started as a crazy and sometimes ridiculed idea, in the mind of a few drop-out underdogs, at a time when people didn’t believe in the potential of this new thing called social media turned into the most unforgettable ride of a lifetime.

“The company is showing unbelievable momentum and I remain Social Chain’s biggest fan, supporter, and believer.

“I owe an unpayable debt of gratitude to my team, past and present. If it wasn’t for you, my board, our chairman, (and mum and dad), I would be nothing.”

The Social Chain boasts numerous clients within sport, including FIFA and SkyBet, while the social media channel SPORF counts over 14.7 million followers across its digital channels and was founded by Manchester United’s new Global Head of Social Media Nick Speakman, while his fellow Sport Industry NextGen alumnus, Richard Johnson is Social Chain’s current Head of Sport.
