Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson has announced a two year extension to its existing partnership with the WTA Tour, however, the brand has decreased its deal from title sponsor to lead global sponsor.
The deal will see Sony Ericsson still retain the prime net signage at the Tour’s 53 tournaments in 33 countries along with significant television and digital media rights.
Sony Ericsson became the title sponsor for the Tour in 2005 but has decided to cut back its deal.
Since starting its sponsorship Sony Ericsson has set up initiatives to attract new fans and broaden the appeal of the sport on a global basis, for example it has set up ‘Night Tennis’ -that fuses music, dance and women’s tennis.
