Obstacle course race (OCR) and endurance brand Spartan has announced its biggest ever prize fund for the 2020 UK & Ireland Regional Series.

A total prize pot of £22,400 will be available to those taking part in the series, which is set to see the best obstacle course racers from across the UK and Ireland battle it out for top spot.

The increased prize pot will offer racers more opportunity to claim a stake, with the top ten finishers of each event taking home a portion of the pot.

Racers will compete in four events across three different race lengths over the course of the series, and will accumulate points based on the results from each race, while the competitor with the most will be declared the winner.

“We are really excited to announce the schedule for this year’s highly anticipated regional series, which will showcase four of our most stunning venues to the best obstacle course racers across the nation,” said Matt Brooke, Managing Director, Spartan UK and Ireland.

“Our biggest ever prize kitty will ensure that competition is fiercer than ever and that the hard-work and determination of racers is justly rewarded. I can’t wait for the Series to get underway at Pippingford next month.”

The series will see participants tested over different disciplines, with the first taking place in April in the South East, at Pippingford Park – a training base for the British Army – where participants will run the Half Marathon Beast event.

The calendar will then take participants to Wales, where they will compete in 10K ‘Super’ event, with a 5K ‘Sprint’ race following that in Yorkshire. The winner will then be crowned at the end of another Half marathon Beast event at the last race of the year, which takes place in Windsor.

Myriam Guillot-Boisset, 2019 Female Elite Winner, said: “I’m so glad I discovered a super friendly and crazy Spartan community. I was super impressed by the quality of course and competition, as well as the stunning views on offer throughout the season. I also absolutely loved the terrain of the courses; I will be back in 2020!”
