The Spartan Race has joined forces with Macmillan Cancer Support along with six other brands for 2018, as they continue to grow in the UK.
In addition to Macmillan, the OCR brand has announced the signing of sportswear brand, CRAFT Sportswear, who comes on board as the official performance apparel and footwear brand, and have partnered with Vita Coco, British Military Fitness, Rehband, DNA Fit and Happy Monkey Smoothies all for the 2018 season.
Macmillan will be the first ever official charity partner of Spartan Race UK. The events, which are expected to have a record number of participants, will give those involved the opportunity to raise funds and help the charity provide emotional, financial, medical and practical support to people living with cancer across the UK.
In 2017, Spartan Race participants grew by 40% and 11% of them raised hundreds of thousands of pounds collectively for well charities. With more races added and the expansion into Ireland, racers will be given further opportunity to fundraise as soon as they sign up and throughout their training process.
Sam Lansdale, general manager of Spartan Race UK & Ireland said: “This represents a massive step for Spartan Race and the mass participation charity sector in the UK. The opportunities here are enormous, given that we’ll have thousands of racers in 2018! Never has fundraising for such a great cause been made so easy for our racers. We couldn’t have found a more natural fit than to partner with Macmillan Cancer Support, given that one in two people will now face a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lifetime. The expansion of so many other wonderful brands is testament to the growing popularity of OCR and the Spartan brand that now sees over 1 million people cross the finish line globally each year.”
Joe De Sena, founder and CEO of Spartan Race, added: “Following the amazing announcement of CRAFT Sportswear, I’m so excited to continue the success and have the Spartan community ready and able to fundraise for Macmillan Cancer Support. I encourage anyone that feels able or willing to help to take up the challenge of fundraising for this fantastic cause. Spartans are known for their supporting nature and community spirit, and I know that this partnership will be a considerable success given these facts.”
Laurence Wilson, challenge events programme manager at Macmillan Cancer Support: “Spartan Race is an exhilarating obstacle course race series and we know our supporters will relish a new challenge. Through the partnership we have a huge opportunity to raise vital funds for the growing number of people living with cancer.”
