Specsavers has announced a two-year extension of its sponsorship of referees and
match officials in Celtic domestic rugby’s Magners League including the launch
of the Specsavers Fairplay League.
The newly developed Specsavers Fairplay League will reward the best
disciplinary record, with the club with the fewest red and yellow cards at the
end of each season given £10,000 to spend on their youth development programme.
Specsavers’ six-figure sponsorship deal, negotiated on behalf of Specsavers
by MEC Sponsorship, will also see the UK opticians’ logo emblazoned on match
officials’ shirts, perimeter boards and media backdrops at each club.
This season, for the first time, TV match officials and citing commissioners
at Magners League games will be used to aid referees and punish violent conduct.
This, allied to the Specsavers Fairplay League, is aimed at encouraging greater
discipline, transparency and accountability in the game.
