The International Cricket Council has asked chief executive Malcolm Speed to
step down from his post early because of a disagreement.
Speed was due to stand down in July after seven years in charge, but will now
leave the ICC this week.
ICC president-elect David Morgan said the row was over Speed’s concerns about
cricket-funding in Zimbabwe and not the Indian Premier or Cricket leagues.
Morgan said: ‘I think it is a very unfortunate ending to what has been a very
successful term of office.’
ICC general manager David Richardson will be interim CEO until Speed’s
replacement Haroon Lorgat assumes the role at the beginning of July.
Speed will be on paid leave from 30th April until “the end of his contract
term on 4th July”.
Speed succeeded Dave Richards as the head of the ICC, the sport’s world
governing body, in 2001.
