The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) has delivered record turnover of £44.3m, according to its annual accounts.

That figure is up 6% on last year, during which the SPFL, which governs the top four tiers of Scottish men’s football, posted a then record high of £41.9m.

Accordingly, the SPFL has increased its payments to its 42 member clubs to £33.7m, which is up by £2m (6%) on last year.

In total, the SPFL has distributed £37.9m to teams this year, compared to £35.8m for 2022/23.

The organisation has cited its new Sky Sports deal as a key driver for the uptick in revenue, alongside its domestic and overseas media rights partnerships.

In 2022, the SPFL signed an extension with the pay-TV provider, which will run from 2025 to 2029, and is reportedly worth £150m over its duration. Under this agreement, the number of games selected for broadcast will rise from 48 to 60 per season.

Earlier this year, the SPFL inked a ‘record’ title sponsorship deal with William Hill, which is reportedly worth £10m over five years, and covers the top four Scottish divisions.

“Given the challenging market and economic conditions right now, these encouraging results reinforce the huge popularity of Scottish football, as well as the level of interest this generates with our broadcasters and our increasing roster of partners,” said Neil Doncaster, SPFL, Group Chief Executive at the SPFL.

“In recent months, we’ve agreed a major new title sponsorship deal with William Hill, as well as a new TV contract with Premier Sports.

“The SPFL has just reported significantly higher attendances per capita than any other European league in a new UEFA report, and whilst we’ll never be complacent, these results give us a strong foundation upon which to further improve our performance.”
