Sport England is looking to encourage more mums to exercise regularly through a new partnership with Les Mills On Demand.
According to Sport England’s latest research, 77% of mums want to do more exercise but a lack of time and the cost of keeping fit are seen as barriers. With six out of 10 saying they feel guilty about taking time to exercise rather than be with their families, Sport England says the at-home Les Mills workout offers convenience.
Expanding its ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, mums can now access a 21-day free trial to the fitness group’s home workouts, including a tailored introductory workout programme for those women who are new or returning to exercise.
“Our insights show that children with active parents – particularly mothers – are more likely to be active themselves,” said Lisa O’Keefe, Insight Director at Sport England.
“And children who have positive experiences of sport and physical activity early on are also more likely to prioritise being active in later life.
“This Girl Can’s social media community is a fantastic place to find tips, support and advice for mums looking for ideas to fit exercise into their busy lives because we know with school runs, children’s parties and home life, time is short and many women tell us they feel guilty spending it exercising.”
Sport England aims to get half a million more people into sport and physical activity across England by 2020, with at least half of these being women.
