The UK sport industry is in rude health and, as the leading champion of sport in this country, we’re on a mission to prove it.
Since London 2012 set a new benchmark for the biggest global sporting event, the UK has seen its leagues and athletes grow in global prominence; its teams receive billions of pounds in investment; and its venues become new homes for international rights-holders.
However, there has been little insight into exactly how much these activities have contributed to the global sport industry, world politics and the UK economy.
In January 2025 that will change as Sport Industry Group releases a new report on the health of the industry. The first edition of this annual report will be a free-to-access insight study that gives the definitive analysis of the value being delivered across the UK sport industry, and which organisations are leading the way within it.

Produced in collaboration with Nielsen Sports, a global leader in sponsorship analytics, valuation and fan insights, the report’s findings will be discussed at an exclusive event for leaders in UK sport, business and politics.
Included within the report:
○ Independent research on the value generated by the UK sports industry, including through international investment
○ Rankings of which sport organisations are leading the way in areas including governance, diversity and sustainability – with perspectives from both sports fans and the sports industry
○ Interviews and case studies from the sports organisations topping the rankings in 2024 and leaders in the space
○ Analysis from industry experts on the key areas of growth for UK sport, including women’s sport, fan experience, social change and technology.

Sport Industry Group, Managing Director, Dylan Pugh, said, “I’m delighted to announce the first annual report into the state of the UK sport industry.
Produced in collaboration with our research partners and other leading organisations in the sector, this is a report for the industry, by the industry.
“In what will become an annual report, we aim to paint an overarching picture of the general health of the industry, explore the trending topics that have defined the conversation over the past 12 months and predict the future direction of the space.”
Nielsen Sports’ Global General Manager, Jon Stainer, added, “As a global leader in sponsorship insights, research and valuation, Nielsen is excited to collaborate with the Sport Industry Group on this landmark report.
The findings offer an unprecedented look into how UK sport resonates with fans and industry leaders alike.
We believe these insights will provide valuable guidance for stakeholders across the sports ecosystem as they navigate the evolving landscape of this dynamic industry.”
