The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s (NSPCC) Childhood Day will take place on Friday 9th June to raise vital funds for the British child protection charity.

As part of the initiative, the NSPCC’s Sports Steering Group is asking leaders across sport to change their LinkedIn profile picture to them as a child.

To donate £4 – the cost for one NSPCC volunteer counsellor to answer a child’s call to Childline – you can text the word SPORTSCHD to 70447, as it

Half a million children suffer abuse in the UK every year, which equates to seven children in every classroom experiencing abuse before they turn 18. The NSPCC believes that this can’t go on and that we all need to work together to protect children.

Alex Horne, Chair of the NSPCC’s Sports Steering Group, said, “Since the group began in 1999, the sports industry has raised over £25 million for the NSPCC, a cause close to my and many of our hearts. Childhood Day is the perfect opportunity for leaders across sport to show their support for the wonderful work the NSPCC does to protect children throughout the UK.”

Lidl GB and Sky Cares, Sky’s community outreach programme, are both sponsoring the NSPCC’s Childhood Day for a second year as retail and media sponsors. Lidl GB has been partnered with the NSPCC for six years and is currently supporting young people with their mental health by raising money for Childline.

Sky Cares has been partnered with the NSPCC for three years and is committed to supporting the communities where their customers and employees live and work. Both partners will be helping to raise awareness of Childhood Day, as well as holding their own activities with their colleagues and customers across Great Britain to help raise vital funds.

The NSPCC is urging anyone with concerns about a child, even if they’re unsure, to contact the NSPCC Helpline to speak to one of the charity’s professionals. People can call 0808 800 5000, email help@nspcc.org.uk or fill in the online form.
