The Sports Consultancy has appointed Simon Long in the newly created role of commercial director.
The role will be focused on securing new work across all areas of the business to enable The Sports Consultancy to continue growing their portfolio of clients.
Simon’s previous roles include chief commercial officer at Stylus Media Group, head of business development, UK&I for Nielsen Sport and chief commercial officer at the Lawn Tennis Association where he was responsible for all aspects of commercial, broadcast, events and participation. Prior to that Simon was chief executive officer of North One Sport, global promoter of the FIA World Rally Championships, having spent the previous decade in various senior marketing and sales roles at Diageo.
Simon’s knowledge of media rights, business development and commercial experience will also be used to support premium rights and develop new revenue streams from the sale of premium hosting and broadcast rights, with existing teams.
Commenting on the appointment, co-founder and Joint managing director, Robert Datnow, said: “We are delighted to have attracted an individual of Simon’s outstanding calibre, track record and networks across sport and major events. We very much look forward to working with Simon as we build on the record-breaking success of our business across all areas in rights marketing, consulting, and legal.
“As our desire remains to continue to grow and expand the business rapidly, our responsibilities are to ensure we have a consistent, long-term, wide-ranging and sustainable flow of exciting and quality new work coming into the business. The business has now reached a scale and stage where we are fortunate to need an individual of Simon’s stature and renown in the industry, whose primary focus will be on securing this new work for us and with us.”
The appointment of Long follows the hire of Fraser Houlder – previously of Female Sports Group – as the agency’s new head of cycling sales in February.
