Sports Direct has announced a new sponsorship deal with League One side Oldham Athletic that will see Boundary Park renamed SportsDirect.com Park.
Additionally the brand will be first team kit sponsor and see Sondico, a Sports Direct brand, take over as kit manufacturer from JD Sports.
As part of the five-year deal, effective immediately, a new club-store will be built within the north stand as part of the deal.
The club’s next game will see Premier League side Newcastle United visit SportsDirect.com Park – who themselves famously had a brief stint playing at the Sports Direct Arena between November 2011 and October 2012, before their ground was changed back to St James’ Park.
Alan Pardew’s side will visit SportsDirect.com Park in a pre-season friendly, as the stadium hosts its first match under its new name on 15th July.
Latics fans will also benefit from the deal, with the new club shop reported to be almost 2,000 square foot in size. The shop will be built within the North Stand, currently being re-built, which will take capacity of SportsDirect.com Park to over 13,500.
David Newbury, SportsDirect.com head of brand marketing, said: ‘We’re very pleased to be aligning our brand with a club as rich in history as Oldham. There’s a real sense of optimism around the club and we hope this sponsorship is one that will benefit everyone associated to the club and play a part in the club achieving its goals. We look forward to welcoming the fans to SportsDirect.com Park and into the new club shop.’
Oldham Athletic chairman, Simon Corney, added: ‘This is a landmark day for the football club. We are delighted to enter into a partnership of this magnitude with Sports Direct. A lot of work has gone into this deal which see’s Sports Direct become our front of shirt partner and Sondico become our technical kit partner for the next five seasons, as well as the renaming of Boundary Park to SportsDirect.com Park.’
‘There is a lot going on at the club, with the construction of the new stand and the opportunities this affords us. We have a dynamic young manager who is looking to assemble a squad to build upon the excellent finish we enjoyed to last season. The fact we have attracted Sports Direct as our major commercial partner shows that we are moving the club forward.’
‘This deal is a first for Oldham Athletic and shows that the long-term future and stability of the club is at the forefront of our minds as we move forward. I’d like to thank supporters for their continued patience and support. We are looking forward to working together over the coming years and maximizing the partnership between Sports Direct, Sondico and Oldham Athletic Football Club during what should be a very exciting time for us all.’
