Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur has appointed VERO Communications to handle the strategic communication around its bid to move into the Olympic Stadium.

VERO is run by former UEFA communications director Mike Lee and has enjoyed a highly successful period after being instrumental in helping Qatar to victory in winning the right to host the 2022 World Cup as well as playing a role in Brazil’s successful 2016 Olympic bid.

The firm is also currently working with New England Sports Ventures following the company’s takeover of Premier League club Liverpool.

VERO Communications comes in to aid Tottenham Hotspur at a crucial time, as any final offers to occupy the stadium must be submitted to the Olympic Park Legacy Company by 21st January.

The legacy of the stadium has been a controversial topic of late, with Tottenham pitting against West Ham to win occupancy of the ground but the North London club’s joint bid with AEG refuses to keep the running track.

This notion has led to senior British athletes writing a strongly worded letter to the Olympic Park Legacy in a bid to keep the running track – as originally outlined in London’s bid for the Games.

West Ham’s bid includes keeping the track and has already been backed by UK Athletics – the Olympic Park Legacy board is expected to identify a single preferred bidder by the end of March.
