Premier League football Tottenham Hotspur is close to securing a sponsorship deal with the South African Ministry of Tourism, according to various reports.

South Africa’s Ministry of Tourism is reviewing a reported three-year sponsorship deal that would see SA Tourism branded on the club’s first team shirt sleeves.

The deal is thought to be valued at round £4.2m and would run until 2026, with the option to extend for a further year.

As part of the agreement, SA Tourism would receive kit branding, interview backdrop branding, match-day advertising, partnership announcements, training camps in South Africa, and free access to tickets and stadium hospitality.

Discussions were ongoing when details were prematurely leaked to the media, according to Themba Khumalo, South African Tourism’s acting Chief Executive Officer.

The Mirror has reported that Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu is eager for the deal to be tied up quickly before she is moved out of post in an upcoming cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

If the deal is approved, Spurs would be the second Premier League club with an African tourist board as a main sponsor.

North London rivals Arsenal currently hold a sleeve sponsorship deal with Visit Rwanda. That deal was signed in 2018 and is reportedly worth $10m (£8.1m) a year.
