Tottenham Hotspur are set to push ahead with their plans for a new stadium, despite facing a High Court challenge over the proposal, after confirming a £50 million contract with M Anderson Construction – claim media reports.
The Essex-based construction firm will be responsible for the new stadium’s foundations and superstructure, including upper floors and stairways that will eventually see a 56,000-capacity ground built directly adjacent to White Hart Lane.
According to council documents reportedly seen by Sky Sports, the contract for the proposed work on the Northumberland Park site adjacent to Spurs’ current White Hart Lane home has been approved by Haringey Council. The council has also granted permission to demolish Fletcher House, a listed building on the site.
M Anderson previously worked on the construction of Spurs’ training facilities at Hotspur Way in nearby Enfield, which opened in 2012.
Though the latest contract with M Anderson has been signed and approved, Spurs still face a High Court challenge from Archway Street Metal Works Ltd, the last remaining landowner on the site – which must be overcome before work can commence.
The Premier League side will need to find a temporary home for the 2017/18 season whilst the stadium work is completed, with Wembley, West Ham’s Upton Park and MK Don’s Stadium:MK all reportedly under consideration.
