Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have responded to the impact of the credit crunch on fans by freezing ticket prices for the next two years.

Despite spending almost £29m on Jermaine Defoe and Wilson Palacios in the January transfer window, Spurs have promised to help out fans by maintaining existing prices for its White Hart Lane ground for another two seasons.

A club statement read: ‘A price freeze for two years, combined with the current lower VAT rate, has been designed to thank our supporters. We want to slightly ease the financial burden that people are experiencing.’

Fans who renew tickets will pay the same price as this season, although the cost will be made lower still by the VAT cut which is now down to 15%.

Tottenham are currently 16th in the Premier League and facing a relegation battle although the club has reached the final of the Carling Cup.
