Tottenham Hotspur has announced it is developing its web TV channel to offer additional content for its growing overseas fan base who cannot attend matches.
Spurs TV online, a subscription channel, will be expanded as part of the club’s strategy to develop its online content and delivery. The subscription channel will offer exclusive coverage of the first team squad, interviews with manager Andre Villas Boas as well as coverage of the club’s community schemes.
As well trying to grow its international fan base, particularly in the USA where the club played several pre-season matches this summer, Tottenham are also seeking to create additional value for sponsors by including branded content on Spurs TV in an attempt to boost revenue.
A club spokesperson commented: ‘We want to give people interested in the team a fuller picture of what the club is doing globally and use that content to convert them into supporters.’
Tottenham is the latest Premier League club to announce an expansion and development of digital strategy. Manchester City has made several attempts to engage with their growing international fan base, particularly through social media, and released a new facebook app last month.
