Sri Lanka’s cricket tour of England in 2009 is looking increasingly likely to be postponed due to a fixture clash with the Indian Premier League.
The tour scheduled for next May clashes with the second season of the IPL in which a host of top Sri Lankan players have binding contracts to play.
Big names such as Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara and Muttiah Muralitharan are among 13 Sri Lankan players with IPL contracts.
Previously, the Sri Lankan sports minister said they should be excused Test duty to honour those deals.
Two Tests are scheduled in England between 7th and 19th May, while a three-match one-day series begins on 27th May, two days after the six-week IPL finishes.
The Sri Lankan tour was arranged after Zimbabwe’s visit was cancelled and it is believed the West Indies are now being sounded out as alternative opposition for England.
