The controversial ‘St Wayne’ ad, featuring Wayne Rooney on a St George Cross, won Campaign magazine’s Gold Award for the best individual press advertisement at the industry bible’s Press Awards last night.
The ad, which garnered acres of news print when it was launched ahead of the World Cup in June, cleaned up a host of other gongs in fashion, national newspaper and photography categories.
The agency responsible Wieden + Kennedy collected the much prized prize.
Other winners included Bartle Bogle Hegarty’s “World Cup agreement” for the Lynx campaign, which scooped three awards. It was named the best written ad, best beauty and health ad and best ad in consumer magazines.
