The Premier League has extended its broadcasting deal with Star India until 2025.
The contract extension between English football’s top flight and The Walt Disney Corporation’s Indian subsidiary will include all 380 fixtures each season and will be distributed through Star Sports, and Disney’s OTT platform Disney+ Holstar.
The relationship has been ongoing for the past ten years and provides coverage across the Indian subcontinent, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Although the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, InsideSport report that the contract is worth nearly 25% less than the Premier League’s current agreement with Star India. Despite this, the Premier League remains on course for record-breaking international broadcasting income over the next three years.
The Premier League’s Chief Media Officer, Paul Molnar, said, “The Premier League is delighted to announce an extension of our exciting association with Disney Star. They will be an outstanding home for the Premier League over the next three seasons and we look forward to working together to showcase the League to new and existing fans throughout the Indian subcontinent.”
Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports at Disney Star, added, “We are delighted to continue our association with the Premier League and look forward to the collaboration over the next three years. With Premier League and the Indian Super League, we are home to the two most popular football leagues in India and will continue our endeavour to grow football fandom in the country.”
