A meeting between the England and Wales Cricket Board and Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi in Mumba failed to bring about an agreement over the release of English players for the IPL.

The two governing bodies will meet again in a few weeks, but in the current state, English players will find it hard to play in the IPL, which will most likely run from 10 April to the end of May, because of schedule overlaps with international matches.

English players are due to begin a proposed Test series against Sri Lanka on 7 May, however, the tour is not expected to happen, as13 of their top players are playing in the IPL.

As of now, English players would only be able to play in a limited number of IPL matches, something chairman Lalit Modi has claimed is unacceptable. The ECB, however, is pushing for the IPL schedule to be pushed back so that their players can participate.

Currently, many English players still have not signed their ECB contracts until the fixtures are clarified.
